For three months Tom Baxter from Tom Baxter Hair eagerly awaited the date that salons could reopen post lockdown.

So when the 4 July was announced Tom, who is an OSMO ambassador, and colleague Dan Harrison decided to open their salon doors for a full 24 hours of continuous haircuts.

In a newly refurbished salon, to adhere to all social distancing guidelines, at 12.01 on Saturday 4 July, aka #TrimdependenceDay Tom Baxter Hair opened for its first official haircut in three months.

Tom and Dan also took this opportunity to support the NHS and donated the £2,500 made from all beard and haircuts during the hours of 12.01am to 06.00am to thank them for all their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tom’s first hair cut was Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers, who had been growing his hair out throughout lockdown in support of Tom and The International Hair Alliance – a social media group to support hairdressers and barbers during lockdown.

After 06.00am Tom and his team continued to cut hair until the very last snip at midnight on Saturday.

Tom said: “Thank you to every single loyal customer that has stuck by us during lockdown.

“We know it has been hard for some but we are excited to be back and making people feel good.

“The NHS have done an amazing job at protecting us against virus, this is our way of giving a little bit something back, giving up our time is the most precious thing you can give back.”

Congrats all round!
