Are You a Modern Barber Best Business Leader?
Do you manage a single barbershop or own a nationwide group? To win the Modern Barber Award for Best Business Leader, sponsored by Captain Fawcett, our judges will be on the look out for someone who shows great leadership qualities, regardless of whether your business is small or large.

There is no one-size-fits-approach to leadership — all great leaders have their own way of doing things. But the result of your methods should always be a team that is motivated and feels valued, a client base that is loyal and a bottom line that keeps growing. This category is a celebration of barbers with a strong vision, commitment to your business and your team as well as commercial strength.

If you feel you have what it takes to win in this category, there is still time to impress our judges as entries for the Modern Barber Awards are open until 5 May. Take a look back over the past 18 months and reflect on all you have achieved and tell our judges why you are our Best Business Leader.

Last year’s winner of the Best Business Leader Award, Joe Mills, founder of Joe Mills Agency, Joe Mills Studio and Woolf Kings X spoke to us about winning the prestigious award: "I was delighted when I heard I was the 2022 Best Business Leader. I had already won the title in 2020 so wasn’t expecting to win it again, especially as there were some great finalists. This is the second time I’ve won the award and it was a really special one after the last few years we had with the pandemic, lockdowns and disruptions in business. These awards are really important to the industry as they give us a platform to share our stories, successes and journeys."

Orla Braiden who collected the award on Joe's behalf at last year's ceremony told us: "Being awarded Best Business Leader means so much to me and the team I have around me. All the hard work we put in and the love for the industry we have makes it all worth it."

Our 2021 winner, Mike Taylor, founder of Mike Taylor Education, left the judges in no doubt as to his business acumen. So what would be Mike’s advice if you’re thinking about entering this year? “Take your time on your entry, have fun with it and really enjoy explaining what you do and what you have in place. Entering competitions should really make you feel proud of what you have achieved so far and what you could do in the future to improve your business.”

We are looking for truly exceptional leaders, so be prepared to impress the expert judging panel - we believe you have what it takes, so start planning your entry here!

TOP TIPS FOR ENTERING BEST BUSINESS LEADER

  • As this is about business acumen, judges will be looking for financial figures that demonstrate your effectiveness as a leader, as well as anecdotal evidence.

  • Our judges love turnover and profit graphs, as well as case studies of how you have led your team and grown your barbering business over the past 18 months.

  • Keep your answers clear and concise and don't forget to provide good quality hi res images, as they might end up in print in Modern Barber!
