Gumtree UK has launched a Small Business Blast-Off Competition which is targeting entrepreneurs and small businesses that have been hardest hit by lockdown restrictions, so could be perfect for barbers!

With cash and business prizes, plus business support packages for entrepreneurs based in Great Britain, the competition could be a boost as small businesses recover from lockdown.

The competition partners will provide “booster” packages to help get businesses back on their feet after lockdown – including business banking provider Tide in addition to O2 Business, Builder.ai and SumUp.

The overall winner will win a £10K cash prize, a free Tide Cashback upgrade for three months, a free SumUp Air card reader, a free Builder.ai app and 12 months’ free data, calls and texts on any handset from O2 Business, plus an advertising package on Gumtree (worth £3k). There are also two runner up prizes, each receiving £5K cash prize, a free Tide Cashback upgrade for three months, a free SumUp Air card reader, a free Builder.ai app each and 12 months’ free data, calls and texts on any handset from O2 Business each, as well as an advertising package on Gumtree (worth £3K). A further 10 businesses will be awarded a Gumtree Blast-Off package & Tide, O2 Business & SumUp Partners Blast-Off packages (excl. Builder.ai).

Gumtree has seen first-hand the impact the crisis has had on small and local businesses, in particular for those offering close-contact health and beauty services and those in the retail trade, many of whom have had to completely pause their businesses in response to restrictions across the country.

The competition launches this week and is searching for micro and small businesses in Great Britain that have shown exceptional innovation, agility and community spirit as they’ve managed the challenges of the past few months.

Hannah Rouch, chief marketing officer, Gumtree UK commented: “This past year has been exceptionally difficult for many entrepreneurs and small business owners. We have seen some sectors disproportionately affected by lockdown restrictions and many SMEs are at the stage now where they need a boost to help them get back on their feet and in front of customers again.

“Our aim with this competition is to do just that. We know from the many small businesses that rely on Gumtree to reach people in their local area, just how many have hustled and embraced their entrepreneurialism to keep their business going despite the circumstances. We want to celebrate them and arm them with a little extra support to kick-start the summer and take advantage of our journey out of lockdown.”

How to enter

To enter, business owners need to record a two minute video explaining how they have coped over the past year and what plans the prizes will help them realise in 2021. The judging panel will be looking for examples of community spirit, resourcefulness and innovation. Business owners can find out how to enter the competition here.

Entries must be received by 16 May 2021. Open only to businesses registered/established in England & Wales or Scotland, with max 15 employees and not in an excluded category. Business contact entering must be over 18. Max 1 entry per business. Prizes subject to winners successfully completing credit checking procedures (or other required checks), eligibility requirements and entering into separate terms and conditions for prizes. Full T&Cs apply.
