Modern Barber is once again teaming up with Mike Taylor Education to bring you the Raw Talent Barbering Competition at Salon International 2023.
We believe in the importance of nurturing the next generation of barbers and celebrating the talent in our brilliant industry. The Raw Talent Barbering Competition is now open for entries and will give a platform to barbering students and apprentices, offering them the chance to show the industry what they can do, while presenting them with a career springboard like no other.
The first round of the competition is judged based on photographic entries, but finalists will get to compete live at Salon International 2023 at ExCeL London. It’s a great atmosphere in which to show the barbering world just what you are made of — everyone there is behind you and wanting you to succeed!
Who can enter?
Entrants must be currently undertaking a formally accredited level 2 qualification in hairdressing or barbering, currently registered on the Hair Professional Apprenticeship Standards or recently qualified within the previous 3 years.
There are three categories to choose from
Student – Students who are registered on an approved level 2 qualification. Entrants must not have any commercial shop floor experience.
Graduate – Level 3 students who are registered on an approved level 3 qualification and apprentices registered on the Hair Professional Standards with less than 12 months commercial shop floor experience.
Postgraduate – Entrants who have achieved an approved qualification with an achievement date within the last three years, and no more than three years commercial shop floor experience.
How do you enter?
Each entry must show at least TWO images of the hairstyle. These must show only front and side headshots.
For round 1, photographs of work created on either headblocks or live clients will be accepted.
Simply click here and choose one of the three categories you fit into best to get started. Entry to the competition is free, but but each entrant will need a ticket to Salon International to participate in the live competition.
What’s the timeline?
Here’s what to expect:
Round 1: Entries will be judged on photographs of a hairstyle that can be uploaded here.
Round 2: The chosen finalists will be invited to recreate their look on a live model at Salon International. Please note, should you reach the finals, you will be required to provide your model.
The closing date for entries to this competition is 30th August at 5pm. Under no circumstances will entries be allowed after this time.
Finalists will be notified two weeks after the deadline.
Finalists will be required to attend Salon International on Sunday 15 and Monday 16 October at ExCeL London for the live final.
