Treatwell Partners With Mental Health Charity, Lions Barber Collective

Treatwell, one of the leading management software apps in Europe, has announced a new partnership with mental health organisation, Lions Barber Collective. This partnership will offer a number of Treatwell’s salon partners mental health training over a three-month period. It will not only give salon owners and stylists the tools to recognise symptoms of mental ill health and allow them to support customers with potentially life-saving conversation, but will teach them how to maintain their own mental wellbeing.

In the UK, three-quarters of all suicides are males (74.0%), with suicide being the largest cause of death in men under the age of 35. With almost half (46%) of hairdressers and barber professionals finding themselves “critical to their clients’ mental health”, Treatwell is opening its doors to Lions Barber Collective to give them access to its vast network of salon owners, barbers and hairdressers.

The training that Treatwell’s salon partners will receive will create a safe space for customers to open up, give staff important tools to identify the warning signs of suicide or mental ill health, and guiding customers or employees towards the help they need. Tom Chapman, Founder of Lions Barber Collective, will be hosting the training sessions himself and sharing the ‘Recognise, Ask, Listen and Help’ model he created. Miranda Mathews, Managing Director at Treatwell for the UK and Ireland shares, “We’re delighted to partner with Lions Barber Collective and offer mental health and suicide prevention training for our partners across the UK and Ireland. As a leader in the European beauty and wellness market, we see this as a responsibility, and an opportunity to make a real difference.”

Founder of Lions Barber Collective, Tom Chapman comments on the partnership, “It’s a pleasure to be working with Treatwell and being able to connect and reach all of their clients and in turn the clients in the chair. The importance of looking after our client’s mental health is high as they confide in us whether we like it or not, but more importantly we as hair and beauty professionals need to be prepared to handle these situations with confidence and know how to keep ourselves safe and mentally fit”

Participating salon partners will receive a HABIA (Hair and Beauty Industry Authority) Accreditation Certificate, recognised by the government as the Standard Setting Body for the
hair and beauty industry – a huge step in tackling mental ill health.
