Barber, hair & beauty worth £6.6 billion to UK The barber, hair and beauty industry contributes £6.6 billion to the UK economy, which equates to at least 8% of total of retail sales, says a new report unveiled at the Palace of Westminster to an audience of politicians and industry professionals.

The Hair and Barber Council and BABTAC (British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology) revealed the findings as part of their bid to persuade the Government to amend the current voluntary Hairdressing Act to that of Mandatory, whilst adding Beauty into the body of the Act. The report also showed that the UK has more than 49,000 hair and beauty businesse which employs 337,000 people, including 16,500 apprentices.
