In our regular series, MB chats to a barber about the work they love to do, the tools they love to hold and the social media they love to play with. Today we spoke to Josh Connolly, co-owner of the Mātū Barber Company. The work I love…is cropped at the front and longer on top. Variations of these styles can be seen on my photos (below). The tools I love...the Andis T-Outliner for blunt crops, Feather Styling Blade for more textured crops and the WAHL Magic Clip. The social media I love…I use Facebook and Instagram. My Facebook business page is where I advertise last minute appointment openings—they always get filled. I use Instagram for uploading my work, chatting to other barbers, checking out new tools and getting ideas.
Josh Connolly's social media tip: Keep uploading your work—you can't put too much work out there. Also, don't be afraid to message other barbers for advice on how to achieve certain looks; there isn't anyone out there who won't reply. We're all in the same boat. Look at haircuts and ask "how can I do that?" and then give it a go the next day. That's what I did when I started out and I'm still doing it now.
