Cloud Nine Appoints Its First External CEO

Cloud Nine, the global hair and beauty brand, has appointed Danny Emmett as its first external CEO – as founding brothers, Martin and Gavin Rae take on new roles as Non-Executive Chairman and Non-Executive Director, respectively.
The move comes as the company eyes further growth, with a strategy that will see it almost double in size by 2027 and explore expansion into new territories.
Danny joins from his most recent role as Group Chief Operating Officer at AO – a role he held for four and a half years. Danny worked his way up at AO over a period of almost 15 years, having joined in 2009 as a Senior Commercial Analyst.
Cloud Nine, which is based at its North Yorkshire headquarters in Harrogate, was launched in 2009 by the brothers, alongside professional Hairdresser and pioneer Robert Powls. The company set out to create hair stylers and beauty products that were innovative, industry-leading, and always kinder to hair. Its last set of accounts show sales at £35m with a combination of continued growth in the UK, significant growth in Australia and New Zealand and the strengthening of its online and in-store presence being credited to its success.
In Martin and Gavin’s new roles they will focus their efforts on growing the business in line with the 2027 targets and will be responsible for overseeing strategic growth and commercial excellence. They will work closely with Danny and in support of their loyal employees, customers and suppliers.
Martin Rae, who was named as the Sunday Times’ Most Ambitious Business Leader for 2022, said: “Gavin and I are very much looking forward to taking on our new roles in the business – one which we have loved building – whilst handing over the day-to-day responsibility to Danny as our new CEO.
“We are very proud of everything we have achieved and are very excited about Danny’s arrival. He brings with him a wealth of digital knowledge and of growing businesses and is very commercially driven.”
Danny comments on his new role as CEO: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead Cloud Nine, an ambitious brand with fantastic products, a unique culture and sustainability at its heart.
