Hair Aid Embarks on Barbering Mission in Manila

Hair Aid, an organisation that has been striving to positively impact lives over the past decade, is expanding its reach into men's jails in Manila and Bali, offering incarcerated men a ray of hope and a tangible skill set.
Founded on the principle of empowering individuals in critical poverty, Hair Aid dispatches teams of volunteer hairdressers to communities across developing nations. These volunteers impart a powerful skill – hair cutting. This knowledge equips these individuals with the tools to kick-start their own micro-businesses, ensuring a leap in their daily earnings, and the possibility to provide for their families.
Subscribing to the saying, 'Teach a man to fish', Hair Aid not only bestows cutting techniques but also provides each trainee with a basic hair cutting toolkit. This ensures that once the training concludes, the trainees can immediately embark on their entrepreneurial journey.
But Hair Aid's commitment doesn't end there. Every six months, volunteers revisit these communities, offering further training and advanced skills, ensuring a continuation of support. Since its inception in 2013, Hair Aid has visited the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and began in Guatemala in September 2023.
The program’s success lies in its universality; hair professionals from across the globe – be it Australia, the UK, or the USA – have all taken part. Niall McNutly, UK Hair Aid Ambassador, emphasises the importance of the charity's work, sharing: “Working with Hair Aid has been one of the highlights of my career. From Manila to Bali to Thailand, it's been an amazing experience."
While the pandemic temporarily hindered international endeavours, Hair Aid has once again continued to gain momentum. For those intrigued and inspired to make a change in their communities, Hair Aid invites you to join their mission. Right now Hair Aid is seeking volunteer barbers to teach in men’s jails in February in Manila and in Bali, Indonesia.
