How to...Master a Timeless Quiff

This month, Joe Vipond, from Joe Vipond Gentlemen’s Grooming, shared his steps to perfecting a quiff.

A timeless style for the sophisticated man of all ages and professions, the quiff is a great cut to have in your barber arsenal, so be sure to check out the steps below.

How to Master a Timeless Quiff

  1. To prepare, the hair was washed using Balmain Homme Bodyfying shampoo and conditioner.
  2. The process begins by creating a box section on the top of the head, from the crown, providing a clear guideline for the square shape, as we aim to achieve a masculine look.
  3. A square silhouette is then cut around the head.
  4. Using the point cutting technique to create texture and movement, cut horizontal sections from back to front, elevating the hair diagonally to achieve the desired length at the fringe. The height of the quiff will be determined by the angle of the section.
  5. Diagonal sections were used to soften the corner slightly, creating balance between the square shape and natural contours of the head.
  6. To complete the look, we used Balmain Matt Paste to create a natural finish, along with a topcoat of Balmain Session Spray Strong to lock-in the style. This look can be accomplished using a variety of lengths on the side - we opted for a skin- fade for an enduring style. The result? The perfect quiff for the stylish modern gentleman.
