Modern Barber Awards: Calling All Industry Newcomers

The entry deadline for the Modern Barber Awards 2024 is just weeks away, but there's still plenty of time to get your entries submitted. We've been listening to your feedback and this year the category formerly known as Best Apprentice has been rebranded to Newcomer.
The Newcomer award, sponsored by ANDIS. is open to barbers who have been newly qualified for under a year; so we want to hear about the individual that continues to go above and beyond. Are they dedicated, passionate with a keen attention-to-detail? If you know a Newcomer that is already blazing a trail to the top then we want to hear from you.
Entering the Modern Barber Awards can help set budding talent on a path for greatness, providing them with recognition from some of the biggest barbers and brands in the industry, while also giving them a huge boost in confidence.
Yasemin Hassan, from Woolf Kings X, winner of Best Apprentice 2023, shared: “It feels really good, I’m not going to lie. I just wanted to challenge myself and push myself forward really. I’m over the moon.”
The entry for the Newcomer award at the Modern Barber Awards needs to be made by the barber's direct manager, so if you think you have what it takes, speak to your boss now! Or, if you are a manager who wants to shine a light on a particularly promising barber, this is your chance to celebrate them. What better way to motivate a hard-working team member than by helping them achieve recognition for their efforts?
Answers kept concise – no waffle allowed! Include evidence where possible, and if you're supplying any images, it's best to ensure these are hi-res, as they might end up in print in Modern Barber.
Sirak Kebede of Ruffians, winner of Best Apprentice in 2022, shared a little advice for those thinking of entering this year: “Don’t half arse it, hit it with everything you’ve got because there’s a lot of talent out there. If you enter something that’s lacklustre, the panel – made up of experts – will see right through it."
