A Six Step Guide To Cutting Men's Curly Hair

Curly hair requires a unique approach to cutting and styling to maintain the client’s natural texture and volume. Charles Rose shares his six steps for cutting men's long curly hair, offering his tips and techniques to ensure a stylish look.

  1. Once the hair has been shampooed and conditioned, start by cutting the length of the hair first. I use a classic hot cross bun section to cut the back. Top tip: always point the chin down when cutting the length at the back of the hair.

  2. To create texture, square layer the hair, then slice the layers at a 45 degree angle.

  3. Using this length, I work backwards, layering the top with a square layer. 

  4. When the hair is still wet, add product. My go to products for a look like this would be the STMNT Curl Cream and Shine Paste. 

  5. Next, diffuse the hair until completely dry. To add further texture I would use my razor to create softness.

  6. Finally, I would finish the look using a hairspray.
