Tom Chapman Hon LLD, founder of HereToTalk and the Lions Barber Collective, has been recognised as one of the 100 Champions for Men and Boys in the UK by the Centre for Policy Research for Men and Boys.
The recognition highlights individuals making a significant contribution to improving outcomes for men and boys across the country – particularly in areas such as mental health, suicide prevention, and community support.
Tom founded the Lions Barber Collective after experiencing first-hand the devastating impact of suicide. The organisation trains barbers and hair professionals to recognise signs of emotional distress and confidently start safe, supportive conversations. Through HereToTalk Training, the programme now works with corporate organisations, construction firms, colleges, and national partners to embed practical mental health skills across workforces.
Tom said: “This recognition isn’t about me – it’s about the thousands of conversations happening every day in barbershops, salons and workplaces across the UK. If we can normalise safe conversations around mental health, we can change, and save, lives.”
HereToTalk and the Lions Barber Collective have worked with organisations including Mace, Red Bull Technology and UBS, and have been featured internationally by BBC, Sky and Fox News.
With men still disproportionately affected by suicide, Tom continues to campaign for practical, frontline approaches to prevention that empower everyday professionals to become part of the solution.
