The latest update information from the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) will support mobile and freelance barbers and hairdressers in our sector, reports the Hair and Barber Council.Local Authorities are being encouraged to support businesses from all sectors that may have been severely impacted by restrictions, but are not eligible for the Restart Grant scheme. This may include, but is not limited to, group travel and tour operators, other tourism businesses (including B&Bs and event industry suppliers), wholesalers, English language schools, breweries, freelance and mobile businesses (including caterers, events, hair, beauty and wedding related businesses), wraparound care providers, and other businesses that may have not received other grant funding.
This list is not directive nor exhaustive, and Local Authorities should continue to issue grants at their discretion, based on local economic needs.
This will specifically help mobile and self-employed businesses who are not rate payers and therefore not eligible for the Restart Grants. The ARG (Additional Restriction Grants) still remains at the local authority's discretion but this should help them focus on the businesses currently out of scope of the other grants. We look forward to seeing how this helps support freelance and mobile barbers in our industry.
You can find guidance for both Restart Grants here and ARG here.
