The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s PROJECT: Men is recruiting for three new members to join the 2020 team as they roll over into 2021.PROJECT: Men, like all of the Fellowship Projects, was put on hold for the year owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. But the existing team will resume their places in the new year – and excitingly there’s room for three new hairdressers to join them.
What is it?
PROJECT: Men is the Fellowship’s flagship men’s hairdressing mentoring scheme, launched in 2019. Led by award-winning hairdresser and session stylist, Jonathan Andrew, it provides a 12-month program of education, mentoring and opportunities for those interested in developing and improving their skills with men’s hair.
The Project provides insight into all aspects of men’s hairdressing, from essential barbering techniques, shaving and clippering to colour, presentation skills and photoshoots. The team come together each month for a mentoring session, led by guest experts. In the past, these have included Danny & Co, Hayden Cassidy, Johnny Shanahan, Andrea Raymond and the Master Barbers.
On top of this, there’s the opportunity to join team leader Jonathan as he works on fashion week shows, live stage work with the Fellowship at Salon International and the opportunity to gain on-set experience.
Jonathan says: “I’m honoured to be Project Leader for PROJECT: Men for a second year. Men’s hair is something I am so passionate about and I think there are so many incredible avenues to explore from the salon all the way to the stage. This is going to be a jam-packed year full of things I only wish I could have had when I was starting out.”
As the men’s hairdressing market continues to grow, there’s never been a better time to develop your skills in the category. With countless opportunities within men’s hair – barbering, session work, men’s hairdressing, education, brand ambassadorship – there are no shortage of routes for an exciting career; all of which could start in 2021 with a place on the team.
How to apply
Project: Men is a diverse and inclusive project, suitable for anyone looking to gain more experience in men’s hair – there’s no age limit, and you do not need to have experience in barbering.
To apply for one of the three places available, applicants should fill out the form available at www.fellowshiphair.com and send three images of their men’s hair work. The closing date for entries is midday on Thursday 24 September 2020.
