Mark Maciver aka SliderCuts is offering up his very own step by step to achieving a 1.5 on top with the grain, skin fade and a faded (tapered) beard shape up. Check out his easy-to-follow guide below...
Start off by bringing the hair down to a 1.5 with the grain.
![step by step skin fade](https://d3sc42dkmius1e.cloudfront.net/mb/2023/06/1st.jpg)
Put the skin line in where you would like the fade to stop and take off all the hair underneath it.

With no gauge/guard in the clipper, open the side lever fully and go up from the skin line about half way (or just under) and flick out creating an open blade barrier.

Now with the gauges 1.5 and the 1, fade in the top part to the top of the hair.

With no gauge, close lever a little bit and go up from the skin line to just under the barrier line from earlier (although it’s no longer there) and flick out. Close it more and go up not as high as you just did and flick out. Close it more and flick out the skin line.

Now shape up the hairline.

Line up (shape up) the beard.

Fade out the top of the beard. And here we have a finished haircut thanks to our step by step – 1.5 on top with the grain, skin fade and a faded (tapered) beard shape up.
