We caught up with three male grooming experts to hear their thoughts on the beard and facial hair trends to watch out for in 2024…
“People ask me all the time if beards are still popular, to which I reply, beards will always have a place, because some men just look great with facial hair,” explains Mahesh Hayward, AKA The Hairy Palm. However, discussing which beard and facial hair styles he predicts will be big in 2024, he adds: “The shorter beard is definitely more popular now – 2024 is the year of the short beard.”
Expanding on this further, Mahesh explains: “The shorter beard is great for everyone, as some people just can’t grow a longer beard. So, this style helps to even playing field for the facial hair aficionados.”
However, Jim also agrees that shorter beards definitely have their place, adding: “Stubble is a beard style that will never go out of style – it’s great for those who want to dip their toe in the water when it comes to having a beard. It’s a casual but classy style and can also be paired with a moustache. I love this look paired with a buzzcut or super short hair look to provide balance.”

Jim Shaw, award-winning men’s hairdresser and owner of TONI&GUY Billericay, also believes that the popularity of beards and facial hair can depend on individual preferences, sharing a contrasting trend prediction: “As we come into 2024, many men will be looking to grow their beard – perfect to give their face some warmth over winter. It’s also great for men who like a more natural and effortless look. The full beard may not be for everyone, but for those that suit this style, it can really make a statement and show off their personality and confidence.”
Meanwhile, Alex McWilliam, barber at Supply91, believes that the moustache will be particularly popular throughout 2024. “The moustache is timeless,” he says. “Not only can it be seen as a fashion statement, but also a fashion accessory, taking an outfit to the next level.” Another benefit of the moustache is its versatility. “It can be adopted by individuals from all walks of life, whether that be a CEO or a global corporation or a barman at your local boozer,” he adds.
Ultimately, while there are a few particular styles of beards and facial hair that we’re likely to see more of in 2024, Mahesh highlights that it’s crucial for you to consider each individual client’s style, sharing: “I love all facial hair – it accentuates individual features and adds character, but it often looks its best when it’s on the right person.”
